Is destiny catching up with me?
For a very long time I am interested in crafts, ancestral know-how. I will spend the number of activities that can be found in this area but one especially called me, the manufacture of a katana.
I discovered a job of finesse, patience, common sense and experience.
A ritual and know-how transmitted to Japan for centuries that leaves me speechless to every documentary or video watched.
I want to say that I have a lot of respect and admiration for our French blacksmiths who have incredible knowledge of steel and its handling.
Being a first-time cook, the use of kitchen knife is common to see everyday, so I have always been aware of the impact on the comfort of using a good quality saw blade!
I discovered the forge, strongly inspired by my son (Thanks son! ;-)
Registering me on the forums, giving me more or less complete tutorials for two years.
I evaluate the necessary equipment, the suppliers, the types of workable materials, and especially the know-how. I must find my way!
The forge that I will discover sooner rather than later will be excluded for the moment for structural constraints related to my current home.
I opt therefore for the manufacture of knives in "stock removal" (By removal of material).
Nevertheless it was essential to understand the grades of steel, their end use sectors and heat treatments to ensure strength, hardness, flexibility, sharpness and durability of the cutting edge ...
I do not hide the fact that these fascinating subjects sometimes led me to tear my hair ... yes the little that I have left ;-)
Finally, we are there!
Fate catches up with me as I wrote before, now you have to grasp it.
I thank wholeheartedly a cutler from my region (he will recognize) who strongly advised me and made discover a fraternity "cutlery".
I make the purchase of the necessary equipment as and when. It is so much to implement what I learned for a few months.
The task is so great that there are things that we learn on the job, it is the difficulties that we overcome the obstacle or that we turn back.
The man and the material finally gathered for a beautiful adventure, a story of man between shine, dust and sparks.
